Barnsley resident Daniel Moxon will jump 10,000ft out of an aeroplane on Wednesday 14th August to raise money for the cancer treatment which could save his life.
Daniel, who was diagnosed with leukaemia in 2009 and received a bone marrow transplant a year later, relapsed earlier this year. Although doctors initially said that there was nothing more they could do, the family have since been told that there are clinical trials which may help Daniel, but that they aren’t available in the UK.
Daniel and his family are now urgently trying to raise money to pay for treatment currently available in the US, which could cost hundreds of thousands of pounds.
Daniel, 23, says, “Initially I wanted to do the sky dive to raise money for the charities who had helped me through my original diagnosis and treatment, but it was cancelled several times because of bad weather. The sky dive was rescheduled, and the money raised went to the charities in question, but shortly afterwards I found out that I’d relapsed.”
Doctors have told Daniel that he is currently fit enough to complete the sky dive, which will take place at approximately 12.00pm on Wednesday 14th August at Hibaldstow Airfield, Hibaldstow, DN20 9NN.
Daniel adds, “There has to be something out there that can save me, but we have no idea how much it could cost, which is why we’re doing everything we can to raise funds. The sky dive was such a good way of raising money last time that I thought I’d try it again, although now there’s more at stake. It’s devastating to think that my life could depend on how much money we have – money that my family just doesn’t have.”
If there is any money left over after Daniel’s treatment, the family want to split it between blood cancer charity Anthony Nolan, who provided Daniel’s bone marrow donor, the Teenage Cancer Trust and the Willow Foundation.
