Anthony Nolan’s chief executive, Henny Braund, has made the following statement in response to the news of John Underwood’s death:
"We are deeply saddened to hear news of John’s death; our thoughts go out to his family and friends at this difficult time.
“John’s beautiful, passionate and often humorous writing about his experiences of being diagnosed with late stage lymphoma and his subsequent transplant journey helped raise more than £120,000 for us over three years.
“Along with his partner, Ella Risbridger, he did an incredible amount to raise awareness of the Anthony Nolan Register and to persuade people to support our efforts to cure blood cancer.
“It was a privilege to have John’s support for our work; his passion and talent will be sorely missed."
