The BNY Mellon Boat Race, otherwise known as the Oxford vs. Cambridge Boat Race or just ‘The Boat Race’, is a truly unique event in the UK’s sporting calendar. Rowing teams from the two most famous universities in the country, facing off against each other along a 4.2-mile stretch of the Thames, from Putney to Richmond.

And this 11 April, our heroic Marrow groups from Oxford and Cambridge were there, having fought for and won the chance to hold a massive collection during the race!

Joining in with the competitive spirit of the day, they elected to face off in a Bucket Battle royale – pitting their wits and cunning against each other to see which Marrow team could raise the most money for Anthony Nolan.

It was all in good fun, although Oxford did have a secret fundraising weapon in Bertie, the Marrow Mongrel (looking very noble and dashing in his T-shirt below).

Meanwhile, both sides had the help of some marvellous Marrow mums, who very kindly came along to help out.

In the end, Oxford won not just the Bucket Battle, but (less importantly) the boat race as well. But both teams did incredible work, raising more than £1,000!

Thank you so much to everyone who came down and took part – it really was a fantastic day. Here’s to next year.
