On the 8th June Anthony Nolan fundraisers will be braving the waters of the River Thames in a bid to beat blood cancer.
The Maidenhead Friends of Anthony Nolan, one of our local fundraising groups, have been chosen as the official charity for the Jubilee Swim.
The event is a 10km long distance swim organised by My Sporting Time. The route takes in the whole length of the Jubilee River, with a beautiful setting starting near Maidenhead and finishing adjacent to the Thames Valley Athletics Centre in Eton.
It’s the third year that the event has been held, and it’s a great day out for all the family, with face painting and sweet stalls near the finish line.
Entrants are being encouraged to raise money for Anthony Nolan, and the organisers have also kindly offered 6 free places for our fundraisers.
Raising vital funds
Gareth Nicholls is the co-ordinator of Maidenhead Friends, and he swam the event last year as well as taking on the London Marathon for Anthony Nolan in 2014.
He said: “Being part of the Maidenhead Friends is something I’m so passionate about, I hope being the chosen charity for the Jubilee Swim will continue to improve awareness of Anthony Nolan and of course raise much needed funds for my favourite charity”.

Alex Hildrew, Head of Community Fundraising at Anthony Nolan, said, ‘The Jubilee River swim event will make such a big difference to people with blood cancer. It costs £100 to recruit each person to the Anthony Nolan register, so fundraising is a vital part of our lifesaving work.
The more fundraising we do, the more potential donors we can recruit onto the bone marrow register, and the more lives we can save.’
