The family of a Southport schoolboy are continuing their campaign to recruit more bone marrow donors to the register after being told that his condition is deteriorating. Sam Wright, 10, has a rare genetic condition which affects his immune system and makes him highly vulnerable to infections and viruses. Tragically, Sam’s sister Ella died of the same condition four years ago.
Sam’s mum, Sally, has been campaigning to recruit new donors to our register since she was told that a bone marrow transplant was the only chance of a cure for Sam, eight years ago.
Sam’s mum, Sally, said, “Sam’s condition has deteriorated over the last year which means that he will have to have a bone marrow transplant sooner than we expected. However, there is still no one on Anthony Nolan’s donor register who is a perfect match for Sam.”
We're holding a recruitment event on Thursday 23rd January and is encouraging everyone aged 16–30 years old to register as a donor. If you can't attend on the day, you can still register online here or find out about other ways that you can help.
