Anthony Nolan held its first ever Supporter Awards in the House of Commons on Monday 4th November. One hundred volunteers, fundraisers, and supporters came to the awards ceremony to celebrate their achievements and meet other people who are passionate about the blood cancer charity.
Among the award winners was eight year old Issy Miller from Wareham who picked up the award for Little Hero of the Year. Issy was diagnosed with leukaemia last year and had a bone marrow transplant in December 2012.
Laura, Issy’s mum, says, 'Anthony Nolan means everything to us. Without the charity, we wouldn't have Issy. I can’t describe how proud I am of Issy for winning the award for Little Hero of the Year. She has been chirpy and positive through everything we’ve been through and is only ever concerned with helping others.'
Henny Braund, Chief Executive at Anthony Nolan, says, 'As we move into our fourth decade as a charity, it is clear that the passion and dedication of our supporters is unwavering.
'Many people support the charity because they have had personal experiences blood cancer. However, all of our supporters continue to engage with the charity because they have such a direct impact on helping us deliver lifesaving bone marrow transplants.
'This is the first time we have hosted the Anthony Nolan Supporter Awards and it was fantastic to thank some of the people who have played a key role in the charity’s success over the last year.'
