Two patients appear to be free of HIV infection after bone marrow transplants seem to have cleared the virus from their bodies, the BBC and Guardian reported today.

Henny Braund, Anthony Nolan’s Chief Executive, says:

‘We welcome these remarkable scientific developments in the use of bone marrow transplants to help people with HIV. It's important to remember that a bone marrow transplant remains the last chance of survival for many blood cancer patients, yet we can still only find a suitable donor for around half of those who come to us in need. We particularly need more young men to sign up to the register so that we can help save more lives, and so that remarkable scientific developments such as these can continue.’
