Scientific director of research elected as a fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences

We are delighted to announce that Anthony Nolan’s Scientific Director of Research, Professor Alejandro Madrigal, has been elected as a Fellow of the prestigious Academy of Medical Sciences in London. Professor Madrigal, along with 43 leading medical experts, has been recognised for his contribution to the advancement of medical science. This year, Fellows were chosen from 351 candidates; their expertise spans pharmacology, cell biology, biomedical engineering, childhood cancers, suicide prevention and international health. The election brings the number of Fellows to 1095.

‘This is a great achievement to be celebrated which recognises his exceptional contribution in his field,’ says Henny Braund, Chief Executive of Anthony Nolan.  ‘I am sure this new role will be of benefit both to Alejandro himself, and by extension, Anthony Nolan. We wish him every success among such distinguished figures in the UK medical science community.’

The Academy of Medical Sciences promotes advances in medical science and campaigns to ensure these are translated into benefits for society. The Academy’s Fellows are the UK’s leading medical scientists from hospitals, academia, industry and the public service.

The new Fellows will be formally admitted to the Academy at a ceremony on Wednesday 26 June 2013.
