Adrian Sudbury was an inspirational journalist who was diagnosed with leukaemia at the age of 25. Adrian and his family campaigned for an education project to teach 16-18 year old students the facts about blood, organ, and bone marrow donation. Sadly, Adrian passed away in 2008 but his legacy remains as thousands of students are given Register and Be a Lifesaver (R&Be) presentations and are encouraged to become donors.

Adrian’s parents, Keith and Kay, would like to say a big thank you to the R&Be volunteers who have enabled the education project to reach so many students.

Keith says, ‘Through R&Be, we have educated 94,000 students about the need for donors and the processes involved. We would not have been able to do this without our R&Be volunteers. They engage with students in an extraordinary way and are quite literally inspiring the next generation to become lifesavers.

‘R&Be volunteers come from many different backgrounds and all have a special reason for wanting to volunteer. They all have two wonderful qualities; they are committed and passionate about the cause. I feel very proud to be associated with such wonderful people. I never thought three years ago that we would have achieved as much as we have.’

134 volunteers have helped to make Adrian’s vision a reality. They deliver presentations to students in Yorkshire, the Midlands, Merseyside, Bristol, and Greater London. Find out more about volunteering for the Register and Be a Lifesaver programme or other ways that you can support the charity.
