Earlier this year, 14-year-old Daniel from Newry, Northern Ireland, was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia, after experiencing back and neck pain and undergoing a series of blood tests.
Daniel was admitted to hospital to have aggressive chemotherapy treatment in Belfast. Doctors told Daniel that his last chance of survival was a stem cell transplant from an unrelated donor. We teamed up with Daniel’s family to appeal to people aged between 16-30 to sign up to the Anthony Nolan stem cell register.
In October, Daniel shared the brilliant news that he had found a donor match. He's currently in Bristol Children’s Hospital recovering from his transplant.
#DoItForDaniel
If you’re aged between 16-30 you can give Daniel, and others like him, hope for a second chance of life by joining the stem cell register.
Signing up to register will only take a few minutes, but it has the power to save someone like Daniel’s life. If you’re aged 16-30 and in good health, you can join the register now.
We’re especially keen to encourage young men to join the register. Why? Because they provide more than half of all lifesaving stem cell transplants needed to save blood cancer patients, but despite this, they only make up for 18% of the register.
If you know any young men between the same age, please encourage them to join too. Let’s #DoItForDaniel.
You can also help give patients like Daniel the best possible chance of life by donating money below.
